Picture this: it’s a super hot and humid November day in Brisbane, we’ve been in drought all year, it literally hasn’t rained in MONTHS and then on the drive from Brisbane up to the Sunshine Coast for this wedding I drove through a huge rain and hail storm completely out of nowhere!! By the time I reached Flaxton it was gorgeous and sunny again but the clouds loomed dark in distance. By the time I’d finished the getting ready photos with Pete and his guys and jumped in the car to go see Jess, the clouds looked a lot closer and looked a LOT darker. Arriving at the venue where Jess was getting ready, the owner was having the difficult conversion with Jess that it looked like we’d have to move the ceremony inside because the storm was definitely heading our way. The set everything up inside the barn and 5 minutes before the ceremony was about to begin the heavens opened up and there was a huge downpour. Safe to say they made the right call!
The ceremony itself as beautiful with incredible vows and let by the wonderful celebrant Anna Bauer. Thankfully the rain had cleared so we could do family and bridal party photos outside on the grounds of Flaxton Gardens. Jess, Pete and I then jumped in the car for some photos of just the two of them at Avocado Grove where Pete got ready which has a beautiful open field and gardens behind it. We got some gorgeous shots and were juuuuust getting Jess into the car when it started spitting. By the time I’d thrown my gear in the boot and jumped in the drivers seat it was bucketing down again! Such lucky timing!
We got back to the venue with a relatively dry bride and groom thankfully and checked out the beautiful styling of the reception space and all ate left over donuts from the donut wall (huge perk of the job!). Everything went beautifully at the reception with a highlight for me being a special video message Pete’s grandad had recorded, all dressed up in his suit and bowtie, to wish Jess & Pete a wonderful wedding day. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Jess & Pete – “Kirsty is a fun, happy, friendly photographer and all round wonderful person. She captured the essence of our wedding day perfectly and was very easy to work with. She had a plan of action and listened/included any requests we had, which really took the stress out the day. Even with some bad weather, Kirsty braved the elements and didn’t let it impact our fun or our special day. As the night ran late she stayed back to capture our wonderful evening on her own time. What a legend!! She was swift and delivered a professional photo package with a few weeks and we love each and every one of them. We would highly recommend Kirsty (Wildflower Weddings) to anyone looking to have someone photograph their occasions.”
