There isn’t anywhere much more beautiful than the Sunshine Coast hinterland for a wedding and Sami & Rob’s Flaxton Gardens wedding was no exception! The beautiful blue skies were a big relief to see on the morning of their wedding (on April Fool’s Day!) Two days earlier Cyclone Debbie had rolled through wiping out power in all of Flaxton!  The house they were staying in still had no power through the night before their wedding! Come the morning of the wedding though, the weather was perfect!

Sami & Rob decided to do a ‘first look’ as it was important to them that they got to spend as much time as possible with their guests. Doing these photos, including all the bridal party shots, before the ceremony meant that they could mingle with their guests during the canape hour imagmediately following the ceremony. We did duck off for 10 minutes at sunset to make the most of the incredible light but doing things this way was so perfect for this relaxed pair. It’s honestly all about doing things your way so that you get the most out of YOUR day.

Being an April 1st wedding, Sami & Rob decided to have a little fun with it. They told all their guests to meet at a certain location at Maroochydore but didn’t tell them where the actual wedding was taking place. The guests were then ushered onto a bus, still not sure where they were going, eventually arriving at Flaxton Gardens. The suspense created such a fun atmosphere and something really different that the guests seemed to love.

Having used the time before the ceremony to do their bridal party photos and some of just the two of them, Sami & Rob got to spend plenty of time with their guests after the ceremony. They had drinks and nibbles, played giant jenga and made time for their guests. Particularly if you’re having a larger wedding (there were approx. 130 guests at Sami & Rob’s) it can be so hard to make time to see everyone once the reception begins between all the formalities. This worked perfectly for them and made the day run even more smoothly.

We did take 10 minutes out at sunset to make the most of the gorgeous golden light though and it was SO worth it.

In order to make room for the dancefloor inside, Sami & Rob had their first dance out on the lawn while the amazing Flaxton Gardens staff rearranged the room. The dancefloor was a big priority for these guys. When they were booking their DJ they said to him that they’d have the formalities finished as early as possible and that they wanted him to DJ from 8:00pm until their departure at 11:00pm. He wasn’t confident that people would be that into it for 3 whole hours but I can assure you, there wasn’t a single moment of down time on that dancefloor. I think the photos clearly show the enthusiasm of all the guests!

“Kirsty is quite literally the best photographer to have by your side on your wedding day. She was so relaxed, and absolutely caught every little moment that we might have missed. She’s also a gun on the dancefloor! I was so nervous about being followed around by a camera, but I didn’t even realise she was there on the day. Kirsty, you went well above and beyond what we asked on the day and we will always be so grateful! Sam & Rob x “
